locally elected board of supervisors. Our agency
is housed in the same USDA Service Center as
the Natural Resources Conservation Service
(NRCS) and the Farm Service Agency (FSA) at:

WATER RESOURCES & NON-POINT SOURCE PROGRAM

Atchison County Conservation District will accept applications for cost-share funds for
the following practices: diversion, grassed waterway, subsurface drain, terrace,
underground outlet, water & sediment control basin, septic system upgrades, plugging
abandoned water wells, and soil testing.
Due to a lack of available funds, all applications will be prioritized according to the
threat to water quality, and must meet the following eligibility requirements.
||The land must be located in Atchison County.
||All structures receiving cost-share assistance must be built to USDA, NRCS “Specifications and Standards.”
||Abandoned water well plugging receiving cost-share assistance must follow Kansas Department of Health and Environment requirements and procedures.
||Septic system upgrades must meet the Kansas Department of Health and Environments Minimum Standards for Design and Construction of Onsite Wastewater Systems and pass all county code inspections.
||Cost-share is for “upgrading” an existing failing system and is not available for “new construction.”
Cost-Share funds are not available for practices started before approval of the cost-
share application. FY 2016 applications that were not approved have been
The Department of Conservation provides funding for the Water Resources Cost-Share
Program (WR) and the Non-Point Source Pollution Control Program (NPSPCP) from the
Kansas Water Plan Fund.

January 15 thru May 15: Best time for planting native warm season grasses.
April 15 to July 15: Kansas nesting season. No disturbance allowed on CRP fields.
